The good news? Even as a beginner, you can earn your first $1,000 faster than you think. The challenge? Standing out in a marketplace filled with thousands of talented creators.
That’s what we’re going to unpack here—how to set up your shop, what sells best, and the proven strategies that helped us (and many others) gain traction.|
Step 1: Understand What Creative Market Is—and Isn’t
Creative Market is not a “free-for-all” marketplace. It’s a curated platform that prioritizes quality over quantity. This means:
- You can’t just upload any font you’ve made in a weekend and expect sales.
- Your product needs strong presentation: polished previews, a compelling description, and a competitive price.
- The competition is tough, but the buyers are serious—they’re willing to pay for quality.
The big advantage? Once your fonts are live, they can keep generating sales for years with minimal ongoing effort.

Step 2: Setting Up Your Shop
To start selling fonts on Creative Market, you’ll need to:
- Apply for a shop – Fill out their seller application with your portfolio link.
- Prepare your products – Include OTF/TTF files, WOFF/WOFF2 webfonts if possible, and a PDF guide for usage.
- Design irresistible previews – Buyers purchase with their eyes first.
- Write persuasive descriptions – Talk about use cases, licensing, and unique selling points.
Pro Tip: Don’t overload your shop with too many products right away. Start with your strongest 3–5 fonts to make a bold first impression.

Step 3: Choosing Fonts That Actually Sell
Not all fonts perform equally well on Creative Market. Based on years of selling there, certain styles tend to do better:
- Elegant and premium display fonts
- Versatile sans-serifs for branding
- Vintage or retro styles with personality
- Seasonal or themed fonts (Halloween, Christmas, etc.)
Here are some fonts from our own collection that are perfect examples:
Aesthetic – Artistic vintage typography with timeless appeal.

Bolde – A strong sans serif perfect for branding.

Ignazio – Modern and clean, great for logos and editorial use.

The Bratsy Script – Our best-seller on Creative Market with layered retro charm.

Death Markers – Vintage brush script with bold energy.

Grims Acid – A recent surprise hit, especially during seasonal promotions.

Step 4: Pricing Your Fonts for Profit
Creative Market buyers are used to paying for quality. Undervaluing your work won’t necessarily get you more sales—sometimes it can make your product look cheap.
A safe starting point:
- Single fonts: $15–$25
- Font families: $29–$59
- Premium bundles: $79+

Step 5: Marketing Your Creative Market Shop
Even though CM has built-in traffic, the top sellers still promote their own work. Some ideas:
- Share previews on Instagram, Pinterest, and Behance.
- Offer freebies or discount codes to email subscribers.
- Write blog posts showcasing how your fonts can be used.
Link directly to your shop whenever possible to drive external traffic and boost your search visibility within CM.

From Our Desk: Breaking Into Creative Market Wasn’t Easy
When we first applied to sell on Creative Market back in early 2019, we thought it would be straightforward. It wasn’t. Our first few applications were rejected.
Looking back, the reason was clear: our portfolio wasn’t yet up to CM’s standard. The font previews lacked polish, some typefaces weren’t well-kerned, and the overall branding didn’t match their curated aesthetic.
So, we went back to the drawing board. We studied the best-selling fonts on the platform, refined our typography, and improved every visual asset. We focused on creating high-quality, versatile fonts—like The Bratsy Script, which would later become our top seller on CM.
As Jeff Bezos once said, “Your brand is what other people say about you when you’re not in the room.” That mindset pushed us to treat every font as a premium product. Eventually, our revised application got approved—and sales started rolling in.
Today, some of our fonts like Grims Acid have become unexpected hits, showing that persistence and adaptation can pay off big time.

Step 6: Scaling Beyond Your First $1,000
Once you hit your first milestone, it’s time to:
- Launch new fonts consistently
- Offer bundles for higher cart values
- Analyze your best sellers and create similar styles
- Leverage seasonal trends (e.g., spooky fonts in October)

Selling fonts on Creative Market isn’t an overnight success story—but with the right fonts, polished presentation, and consistent marketing, it can be a powerful income stream.
Don’t let early rejections discourage you. Every sale brings you closer to your first $1,000, and more importantly, to building a sustainable creative business.
